According to Code, the clearance between the car platform sill and the hoistway enclosure is not limited– if a Car Door Interlock is installed. But how could you install something that has not been invented yet?

How the Interlock works

Travel Position – Car Door Fully Closed

 

1: Car door interlock is in its neutral, travel position resting on the lock

2: Car door interlock switch is made, allowing driving means to engage

1: Car door interlock is disengaged from the lock allowing the door to open fully

2: Car door interlock switch is open, disconnecting driving means

3: A flag installed on each hoistway door, allows the car door to open in the unlocking zone

Inside the unlocking zone, the car door fully opens
